What they do
A high voltage transformer that converts the vehicles 12 volt
battery supply to the 25-30,000 volts needed to jump the spark
plug gap. Triggered by the engine management ECU.
Symptoms of failure
Either intermittent misfire at low RPM/lean mixture conditions
or a total failure of spark to the affected cylinders.
Maintenance
Ensure that the outer surface and connections are kept clean
and dry, check at service intervals for signs of corroson/voltage
leaks.
