What they do. A catalytic
converter is a post-engine “filter” that uses
a combination of heat and precious metals to chemically convert
an engine’s harmful emissions into less environmentally
damaging ones.
Range
Fuel Parts UK offer an ever increasing
range of over 700 direct fit and 15 universal catalytic converters.
We are committed to the European R103 type approval regulations
and the majority of our converters already carry a, part number
specific, type approval number. Fuel Parts UK converters come
with fitting instructions and tips for both the fitter and
vehicle owner.
Symptoms of failure
MOT emissions failure, internal rattle or a reduction in vehicle
performance are all symptoms that can be associated with catalyst
failure but it should be borne in mind that the majority of
converter failures are caused by engine management faults.
Before replacing or condemning a catalyst ensure that the
vehicle’s emissions and engine management system are
fully investigated. Please check our technical tips for more
advice.
Maintenance
No maintenance of the catalyst is required and there are no
internally serviceable parts. It is important that the engine
management system and the vehicle’s emissions be regularly
serviced and checked. For more information regarding this
please consult your vehicle owner’s manual.
Typical location
Mounted in the exhaust system in a position that is as close
to the engine as possible. Fitted after the Lambda sensor
it typically resembles a small exhaust silencer.
